St.Petersburg Polytechnic University Peter the Great is one of the oldest leading university in the country. The scientific and educational structure of the Polytechnic University for a long time includes a number of institutes and departments that are fundamental to work on the machine tool project, in particular the Institute of Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering and Transport.

DESIGN ENGINEERING

Together with BPK, the University adapts and develops the design documentation for the "F.O.R.T." machine lineup:

• Machine units engineering;

• New models development;

• Control of the release of prototypes.

These design developments allow the creation and upgrading of individual units of equipment and the layout of machines generally, taking into account the requirements of modern Russian industry.

EDUCATION

The University provides training of highly qualified  personnel and production practice of future machine 
building engineers, including at the specialized  department at BPK and at the machine buiding factory 
Sasta.

RESEARCH IN ADDITIVE TECHNOLOGIES AND MATERIAL SCIENCE

Together with the BPK, the University conducts research  in perspective areas: 

• Creating a hybrid additive technology, the research of the properties of powder materials; 
• New digital technologies for modeling and creating functional gradient materials and design for the additive production of parts and components with variable structure, chemical composition and density;
• Development of scientific and technological bases for the digital production of large-sized elements of products by additive electric arc growing from aluminum alloys with their subsequent combination by friction stir welding; 
• Scientific research for the high-strength cast iron production.
